Romanian state companies owe 11.24 billion lei in tax debts

Romanian state-owned and locally controlled companies owe 11.24 billion lei in tax debts as of June 30, 2026. According to data from the Ministry of Finance provided to Senator Cătălin Silegeanu, enforcement actions have only been initiated for 1.89 billion lei of that total.

Significant portions of the debt remain uncollected: 7.41 billion lei are in situations where enforcement cannot be started or continued, and 1.93 billion lei are benefiting from payment deferrals. Among the 45 state companies that entered insolvency within the last year, the tax authority has only requested insolvency proceedings for two.

Major debtors include ROMAERO with 817.6 million lei, REMIN with 601.1 million lei, Metrorex with 353 million lei, the National Uranium Company with 310.1 million lei, and Avioane Craiova with 74.1 million lei. Other companies facing enforcement difficulties include Complexul Energetic Hunedoara, Societatea Națională a Cărbunelului, and Termoenergetica.
