Moldova plans Strășeni–Gutinaș 400 kV power line
The Moldovan Ministry of Energy has drafted a law to declare the construction of the 400 kV Strășeni–Gutinaș overhead power line and the modernization of the Strășeni 330 kV substation as works of national interest. The project is considered strategic for Moldova's energy security and its integration into the European energy system.
The new power line will span approximately 70 kilometers within Moldova, passing through 25 localities across the Strășeni, Călărași, Nisporeni, and Hâncești districts. It aims to provide a direct connection between the Strășeni station and the Romanian transport network via the Gutinaș station, diversifying energy transport routes and increasing system reliability.
Construction is planned for completion by 2032. The United States government has previously committed $130 million to fund the project. Declaring the project a matter of national interest will allow for special land expropriation procedures, with affected landowners to be compensated at market prices. Implementation details and financing structures are subject to ongoing negotiations with partners in the United States and Romania.
