Moldova honors two police officers killed in Sîngerei road crash
On 23 June 2026, two Moldovan patrol officers (aged 25 and 29) were struck by a Volkswagen on the R6 road in the village of Grigorăuca, Sîngerei district, while documenting a traffic violation. Both were taken to hospital in critical condition and later died. Police investigators say the driver, a local music teacher, fell asleep at the wheel; he was detained for 72 hours pending further inquiry.
In response, the National Police announced a nation‑wide moment of remembrance: at 09:00 on 25 June, all police vehicles across the Republic of Moldova will sound their sirens simultaneously as a tribute. The public was asked not to panic. A funeral procession involving dozens of police units took place, and the families of the deceased officers expressed profound grief over the loss.
