Moldova prepares for winter with diversified energy supplies

Moldovan authorities have announced that the country is prepared for the upcoming winter heating season. The Ministry of Energy stated that gas supplies have been diversified and the Moldsilva Agency maintains substantial firewood reserves. Additionally, renewable sources currently account for approximately 30% of electricity production.

A key priority is the commercial operationalization of the Vulcănești-Chișinău overhead power line, which is expected to be functional by the end of October. A government commission will monitor preparedness levels through mid-winter to ensure the security of electricity, natural gas, and heat supplies for centralized systems.

Data from the energy supplier Energocom shows that in August 2026, electricity imports accounted for 78.36% of total acquisitions. The majority of these imports, totaling approximately 73%, were sourced from Romania and Ukraine. Local production covered the remaining 21.64% of the total volume, with renewable energy parks and plants contributing roughly 20.3% of that figure.
