Moldova’s President Maia Sandu concluded her diplomatic tour of the European Union at the Globsec forum in Prague, saying she expects a formal decision on opening accession negotiations within the next few weeks. She stressed that “integration into the European Union is our strategy to survive as a democracy” and warned that Russian pressure will continue.

Czech President Petr Pavel echoed EU officials’ view that negotiations could begin in June, noting Moldova’s progress among candidate countries. Sandu’s tour included meetings with European Parliament President Roberta Metsola in Strasbourg, Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten and Foreign Minister Tom Berendsen in The Netherlands, and a reception in the Czech Republic. She was awarded the European Order of Merit and reiterated the goal of full EU membership by 2030.

Sandu emphasized that the decision on EU enlargement should be taken in Brussels, not Moscow, and reaffirmed Moldova’s commitment to European integration despite ongoing security challenges.
