Moldova President revokes citizenship of three individuals
President Maia Sandu has signed decrees to revoke the citizenship of three individuals, including two members of the separatist administration in Tiraspol. Iurie Cara and Andrei Safonov, identified as members of the so-called legislative body in Transnistria, are accused of participating in the adoption of unconstitutional acts that violate the rights of Moldovan citizens in the region. The Presidency stated that both individuals promote the “Russian world” ideology and support the continued illegal military presence of the Russian Federation in Moldova.
The third individual, Serghei Verdeș, had his citizenship revoked after authorities determined he obtained it by violating legal procedures, despite a negative opinion from the Intelligence and Security Service (SIS). These revocation procedures were initiated by the Public Services Agency based on findings from the SIS. Under current legislation, citizenship can be withdrawn for serious offenses that prejudice state interests or when obtained through the circumvention of legal norms.
