Moldova Prime Minister addresses education funding and results
Moldovan Prime Minister Vasile Tofan has acknowledged that while the Republic of Moldova allocates a significant portion of its Gross Domestic Product to education, the system is not fully meeting expectations. Speaking at the ‘Teacher of the Year 2026’ awards ceremony, Tofan noted that the country allocates 6% of its GDP to education, a figure he compared to Estonia and Finland, which allocate less than 5%.
Despite these high levels of investment, the Prime Minister admitted that the current results do not entirely satisfy public or institutional demands. He assured that education will remain a priority for the current government and that the current proportion of GDP dedicated to the sector will be maintained, though he did not outline specific measures to improve the efficiency of these investments.
