Moldovan government domestic policy priorities
Overview
Prime Minister Vasile Tofan has outlined several domestic policy priorities for the Moldovan government. Regarding economic reform, Tofan announced plans to implement significant reductions in labor taxes to improve competitiveness and support industrial growth, noting that industrial production rose by approximately 8% in the first half of the year.
In the sector of public services, Tofan addressed education funding. Speaking at the ‘Teacher of the Year 2026’ awards ceremony, he acknowledged that while Moldova allocates 6% of its GDP to the sector—a higher proportion than countries like Estonia and Finland—the current results are not fully meeting expectations. He committed to maintaining this level of investment as a government priority.
To address long-standing delays in the construction sector, where real estate projects worth hundreds of millions of lei have been stalled due to slow permit issuances, the government plans to facilitate investor access to unutilized state land and buildings through transparent privatization.
Expanding on these urban development efforts, Vice Premier and Minister of Infrastructure Vladimir Bolea announced that approximately 1.5 billion lei in infrastructure projects are currently underway in Chișinău, with total projects managed by his ministry amounting to roughly three billion lei. These initiatives include the rehabilitation of residential courtyards, playgrounds, and parks, alongside the modernization of schools, hospitals, and road networks. For 2026, the government has allocated nearly five billion lei toward Chișinău for educational institutions, road infrastructure, and suburban projects.
