Moldova offers 200,000 lei incentive for teachers in Gagauzia and Taraclia
The Moldovan government has approved a new financial support mechanism to attract teaching staff to the Gagauzia Autonomous Unit and the Taraclia district. To address a shortage of educators capable of teaching in Romanian, teachers who relocate to these regions will receive a one-time incentive of 200,000 lei.
The payment will be distributed in two installments: the first upon appointment and the second after six months of active employment. To qualify, educators must commit to working in the region for at least five years with a minimum teaching load of 18 hours per week. Candidates must also possess the necessary qualifications and demonstrate Romanian language proficiency at a B2 level or higher.
Education Minister Dan Perciun noted that the lack of staff has hindered the opening of new Romanian-language classes, particularly in primary education. The initiative aims to improve educational quality and student outcomes in schools where instruction is primarily in minority languages. This measure does not apply to teachers already employed in the target regions.
