Moldova proposes stricter fireworks and pyrotechnics regulations

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Moldova has drafted a new law proposing stricter regulations for the use of fireworks and civil explosives. The project, which is currently undergoing public consultation, aims to enhance public safety and environmental protection.

Under the proposed rules, the use of fireworks would be prohibited within 100 meters of residential buildings, schools, kindergartens, hospitals, medical institutions, and religious sites. Exceptions for residential areas would require consent from both the building administrator and fire safety authorities, while exceptions for educational or medical institutions would require local public administration and fire safety approval.

The draft also introduces several other significant restrictions:

• Prohibits fireworks in protected areas, including national parks, nature reserves, zoos, and Ramsar sites. • Bans the use of pyrotechnics near water bodies, hydrotechnical constructions, and on building rooftops or balconies. • Restricts private individuals from owning or using F2 and F3 category entertainment pyrotechnics, limiting their handling to authorized pyrotechnicians.

Failure to comply with these new regulations could result in fines and criminal sanctions.
