Moldova ranks 25th in 2026 Global Hunger Index
Moldova has been ranked 25th out of 122 states in the 2026 Global Hunger Index, indicating a low level of hunger. The country achieved a score of 5, showing significant long-term progress compared to its score of 18.3 in 2000.
Despite this improvement, nutritional challenges persist. It is estimated that less than 2.5% of the population was undernourished between 2023 and 2025. Among children under five, 4.2% suffer from stunting (low height for age) and approximately 3.3% suffer from being underweight for their height, signaling chronic malnutrition.
Globally, the fight against hunger has faced setbacks. The global score rose from 17.6 in 2018 to 18.1 in 2026, with approximately 645 million people facing insufficient food intake in 2025. Factors such as conflict, inflation, the pandemic, and extreme weather events have hindered food access worldwide.
