Moldova readies troops for Independence Day military parade, traffic restrictions imposed

The National Army of Moldova, together with other security forces, will conduct joint training exercises in the Telecentru district ahead of the 35th anniversary of the country's independence. Rehearsals are scheduled for 11, 13, 18 and 20 August, each day from 08:00 to 10:00, under the bridge between Lech Kaczyński and Sprâncenoaia streets extending to the PECO Lukoil station. During these drills, traffic on the affected stretch of the national R3 road will be suspended and drivers are urged to use alternative routes.

President Maia Sandu, when asked whether the celebrations should be cancelled because of the ongoing crisis, said the situation was not grave and that citizens need positive emotions. The official programme, titled “Independence that unites us – Moldova‑35”, includes about 30 cultural, educational and commemorative events that will run through the end of the year, culminating in a flower‑laying ceremony at the Eternal Memorial Complex and a military parade in the Great National Assembly Square.

The preparations aim to showcase the consolidation of Moldova’s defence system while minimizing disruption for the public.
