Romanian and Moldovan police enforce traffic rules, seize e‑bikes at border

In Botoșani, Romanian traffic police and the Romanian Vehicle Registry inspected 30 users of electric scooters, bicycles and motorcycles, issuing eight fines for technical defects and cyclist violations. In Constanța, city CCTV helped identify four individuals, including a minor, who vandalised playground equipment at the "Țara Piticilor" site; they have been questioned and investigations continue. Also in Constanța, a 21‑year‑old driver from Brașov was fined 5,190 lei for multiple traffic offences, had his licence suspended for 30 days and his vehicle’s registration plates removed; two passengers were each fined 435 lei for not wearing seat‑belts. In Hunedoara County, police conducting the European ROADPOL‑SPEED operation opened criminal dossiers after catching a 56‑year‑old driver with a blood‑alcohol level of 0.92 mg/L, a 38‑year‑old driver with 0.45 mg/L, and a 46‑year‑old motorcyclist without a licence. In Moldova, police recorded more than 3,630 traffic violations over the weekend, removed 104 drivers for alcohol‑related offences and responded to 2,687 emergency calls. At the Borș border crossing, Romanian frontier police seized eight electric bicycles worth about €20,000 from a Romanian van after the driver could not provide provenance documents; the bikes were flagged by Austrian authorities as items sought for confiscation and a criminal investigation has been opened.
