Moldova reports illegal logging and ambrosia removal by environmental inspectors

Environmental inspectors in Moldova’s Dondușeni district uncovered multiple cases of illegal tree cutting, identifying at least 98 felled trees of ash, ash, maple and other species. The total estimated damage exceeds 30,000 lei, with individual incidents causing losses of 12,350 lei, 4,650 lei and 13,540 lei. The illegal cuts were documented in forest sectors managed by the Dondușeni Forestry Unit and the municipalities of Țaul and Tîrnova, and contravention reports have been filed for further legal action.

The same agency continues its campaign against the spread of ambrosia, an invasive plant posing health and environmental risks. Inspectors carried out controls and verification visits in several localities across the country, issuing additional contravention notices to address the problem.

Both initiatives highlight ongoing enforcement efforts by Moldova’s Inspectorate for Environmental Protection to curb illegal resource extraction and manage invasive species threats.
