Moldova revamps student dormitory and merges Strășeni engineering college into energy centre

More than 200 students at the Ion Creangă Pedagogical University in Chișinău will move into a newly renovated dormitory on 1 September 2026. The €1.8 million project, funded by the World Bank under the “Higher Education in Moldova” programme, provides modern furnishings, accessible facilities and appliances. Minister of Education Dan Perciun said the renovation is a model for future student housing and that by 2030 a total of 19 dormitories will be fully upgraded, creating about 5 000 high‑standard places.

In a separate reform, the Government approved on 29 July the absorption of the Strășeni College of Engineering into the Centre of Excellence in Energy and Electronics in Chișinău. All equipment, curricula and staff will be transferred to the Centre, which has a budget of 37.31 million lei for 2026. The reorganisation aims to concentrate resources, improve educational quality and better match labour‑market needs.
