Moldova reviews gas procurement and compensation as consumer bills rise
Deputy Constantin Cuiumju of the Party of Our Nation criticised the state gas trader Energocom for not using financial hedging tools that could protect consumers from price volatility. He urged the Ministry of Energy, the Court of Auditors and the National Agency for Energy Regulation (ANRE) to examine Energocom’s purchasing model, which he says fixes volumes first and sets prices later, leaving the population to bear higher costs.
At the same time, the Moldovan government said it will decide the form and mechanism of winter‑season compensation only after ANRE approves new natural‑gas tariffs. Government Secretary‑General Alexei Buzu indicated that the level of support for households will depend on the final approved prices for the cold months.
