Moldova rolls out digital ID wallet and smart energy meters to deepen EU integration
At the Moldova Digital Summit 2026, Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu and EU Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos highlighted the country’s digital progress. The summit launched the EVO digital identity wallet, a tool that will let citizens and businesses access services securely and connect Moldova to the European Digital Identity Wallet. The wallet is expected to cut paperwork, simplify service access and contribute to estimated annual savings of over 853 million lei from digital public services.
In parallel, the Ministry of Energy announced a plan to equip the country with smart electricity meters within the next five years. The meters will enable remote reading, accurate real‑time billing and more efficient energy management, further modernising Moldova’s infrastructure as it aligns with European standards.
