Moldova and Romania report significant shifts in fiscal policy and wages
In Moldova, the government has approved the allocation of over 70 million lei from the state budget to local authorities to ensure the payment of salaries for employees in primary, gymnasium, and high schools. This measure follows warnings from several schools regarding potential funding shortages for personnel expenses. The largest allocations will go to the Ștefan Vodă district (11.8 million lei), followed by Glodeni, Drochia, and Ocnița. Additionally, Moldova's Ministry of Finance has submitted a new fiscal policy project for 2027 to the IMF for consultation.
In Romania, the National Institute of Statistics reported that the average net monthly salary rose by 0.9% in June 2026 to 5,734 lei. The highest average earnings were recorded in IT programming and consultancy (13,474 lei) and editing (11,999 lei), while the lowest were in service activities and fishing. The increase is attributed to seasonal bonuses and performance incentives.
In the Romanian food industry, recent investments and mergers have reshaped the top employer landscape. Tinervis Group, owner of the Luca snack brand, has become the largest employer in the sector with over 3,000 employees, marking significant growth from its previous scale.
