Moldova to integrate prison medical services into public health system
The Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Health of Moldova have approved a roadmap to integrate prison medical services into the country's public healthcare system. This reform aims to ensure that incarcerated individuals receive medical care under conditions comparable to those available in the general community.
Minister of Justice Vladislav Cojuhari stated that the approval of this document marks the beginning of the reform, creating the necessary framework to effectively guarantee the right to appropriate medical care. Minister of Health Alexandru Gasnaș emphasized that deprivation of liberty should not affect a person's right to quality medical services, noting that the reform will allow for the application of the same care standards regardless of whether a patient is in a penitentiary or the community.
The integration will be implemented in stages through cooperation between the two ministries and other responsible institutions, with the roadmap defining specific actions, deadlines, and responsibilities.
