Moldovan and Romanian officials caution public on swimming and exercise during heat wave

The Moldovan General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU) urged citizens to swim only in designated, supervised areas and to avoid entering water while intoxicated, warning that swimming in unapproved locations and alcohol consumption can lead to tragedies. The agency also noted a yellow heat alert for July 18‑19, with maximum temperatures expected to reach 33‑34 °C.

Romanian health experts advised people to adapt physical activity to the extreme heat by exercising early in the morning or in the evening, staying in shaded areas, taking frequent breaks, hydrating properly, and avoiding intense effort during the hottest part of the day. They highlighted that the 2026 World Cup matches in North America will also incorporate extra hydration breaks due to the heat.
