Moldovan anti-corruption probe detains man over €20,000 bribe to free convicted rapist

The National Anticorruption Center (CNA) in Moldova detained a man suspected of influence‑peddling after he allegedly received €20,000 from a relative of a convicted rapist. The money was paid in multiple installments in both Moldovan lei and foreign currency. The suspect claimed he could sway judges to issue a decision releasing the inmate and was held for 72 hours in a CNA isolation ward.

Investigators are pursuing a criminal case for traffic of influence. The probe continues to determine whether other participants were involved in the scheme.
