Moldovan Bădiceni Senior Home Renovated with EU Funding

The social care centre in Bădiceni, Soroca district, Moldova, has been renovated to meet EU energy‑efficiency standards. The €87,000 works, financed by the European Union and carried out by the Association “Casa Speranțelor” together with the Soros Moldova Foundation, added thermal insulation, a new roof and upgraded furniture. The improvements provide greater comfort for the 50 elderly residents and lower heating and maintenance costs, with the centre reporting a significant reduction in fuel use during the recent winter. Project director Angela Brighidin highlighted that the insulated floor alone prevented most heat loss, while beneficiaries such as Ludmila Postolachi described the building as “much warmer” and “more pleasant” than before. The renovation is part of a broader EU‑funded programme allocating roughly €5 million to modernise 35 social‑service facilities across Moldova.
