Moldovan man sentenced to seven years for exploiting workers in Russia

A 54‑year‑old man from the Cimișlia district of Moldova was sentenced by a Moldovan court to seven years in a semi‑open prison for labor exploitation. He recruited six fellow Moldovan citizens in 2014‑2015, promising legal contracts and monthly salaries of 50,000‑90,000 rubles for work in a Moscow‑region freight‑transport company. The victims – five men and one woman – performed truck‑driving, mechanics and dispatch duties but received only partial or no payment, working up to five months without proper rest. The court ordered the damages to total about 1.312 million rubles (≈448 k lei) and barred the perpetrator from managing any enterprise for three years. He partially admitted guilt, attributing non‑payment to the company's financial difficulties. The verdict remains appealable.
