Moldovan diaspora preserves language and traditions abroad

Members of the Moldovan diaspora in countries such as the United States, Canada, France, and Switzerland are actively working to preserve the Romanian language and cultural traditions among their children.

In Chicago, the “Școala Noastră” school provides a space for dozens of children to learn the language and explore their heritage. Similarly, in France, the “Mugurașii” ensemble was founded by Valentina Tacu to help diaspora children connect with their roots through music, poetry, and traditional songs.

Families report that while local languages like French and English dominate schools and social circles, they maintain strict rules to speak Romanian at home. This practice serves as a vital link to their family history, traditions, and the relatives they left behind in Moldova.
