Moldovan leu rises against euro and US dollar after BNM announces new rates

The National Bank of Moldova (BNM) published its official exchange rates for 6 August 2026. The leu was set at 20.05 lei per euro, a depreciation of two bani for the euro, and at 17.37 lei per US dollar, a depreciation of six bani for the dollar compared with the previous day. The leu also quoted at 3.82 lei per Romanian leu and 0.38 lei per Ukrainian hryvnia, the latter down one bani. These adjustments reflect a modest strengthening of the Moldovan currency against its main foreign counterparts.

The rate changes were announced alongside other fiscal updates, including a forthcoming fiscal reform presentation by Prime Minister Vasile Tofan, but the primary focus of the reports was the BNM’s daily currency update.
