Moldovan Parliament hosts sign language masterclass for deputies

To mark the International Day of Sign Languages and International Week of the Deaf, a group of six hearing-impaired children aged 13 to 16 led an educational session at the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova.

The children opened the plenary session on September 24 by performing the song ‘Cât trăim pe acest pământ’ using sign language. Following the opening, the youth participated in a masterclass where they taught deputies and parliamentary staff basic signs, including greetings and terms related to public life such as ‘democracy’, ‘access to freedom’, and ‘vote a law’.

Deputy Ludmila Adamciuc noted that the event highlights the right of hearing-impaired individuals to communication, information, and full participation in society. Alla Bargan, manager at the Association of the Deaf in Moldova, also attended, emphasizing that sign language is a living language and a natural means of communication.
