Moldovan Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu Reaffirms EU Membership Goal at Sofia SEECP Summit

Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu used the South‑East European Cooperation Process (SEECP) summit in Sofia on June 10 to reiterate Moldova’s determination to join the European Union. He highlighted concrete benefits that EU integration already provides, such as the operationalisation of the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA) system and the full implementation of the “roaming like home” regime, which connect citizens and businesses more closely with the European market.

Munteanu also warned of the security challenges posed by Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine and stressed the need for stronger regional cooperation, deeper connectivity and greater energy security. On the sidelines he met Bulgarian Prime Minister Rumen Radev, discussing deeper Moldovan‑Bulgarian ties, the Vertical Gas Corridor initiative to diversify energy supplies, and shared concerns about stability in the Black Sea region. The discussions underscored the importance of solidarity and partnership for Moldova’s European path.
