Moldovan Summer Camp Aids Children of Conflict-Affected Families

From 19 – 28 July 2026, the Ministry of Education and Research of Moldova hosted a ten‑day summer camp at the "Speranța" recreational centre in Rădoaia, Sîngerei district. The programme welcomed 240 children from the Transnistrian region and from refugee families originating in several countries. Activities included Romanian language lessons, creative workshops, team sports, cultural evenings and sessions on Moldovan traditions, aiming to foster intercultural dialogue and communication skills. The camp was organised in partnership with the Centre for Refugee Charity and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). Ivan Duminica, head of the inter‑ethnic relations service at the ministry, highlighted that education can build bridges across diverse communities.

In a related initiative, 40 children of soldiers killed or missing in the regional conflict spent a week (20 – 25 July) in a Romanian summer camp in the border county. The camp provided a safe environment for the children of fallen defenders, supporting their well‑being and offering respite from the hardships of war.

Both camps demonstrate regional efforts to support vulnerable youth through education, recreation and cross‑border cooperation.
