Moldova moves to ease gas imports and reviews consumer tariffs

The National Agency for Energy Regulation (ANRE) has drafted amendments to the natural gas network code that would introduce an aggregated capacity mechanism for cross‑border transport. The proposal aims to let importers reserve and transfer transport rights at a single point, simplifying procedures and lowering administrative costs. ANRE says the changes will align Moldova’s legislation with new EU rules taking effect on 5 August 2026 and could broaden market competition, which is currently dominated by a single importer.

Separately, the interim head of state‑run gas supplier Moldovagaz, Eugeniu Buzatu, told BANI that the company is finalising internal calculations and expects to announce this week whether natural‑gas tariffs will be increased. The potential price adjustment comes as the regulator’s reforms are under public consultation, highlighting a period of significant change for Moldova’s gas sector.
