Moldova's Energocom seeks 45% gas tariff hike amid soaring European prices

State-owned gas retailer Energocom says rapid rises in international natural‑gas markets – up more than 70% in recent months due to the Hormuz Strait tension, attacks on energy infrastructure and heightened competition for LNG – have pushed European TTF prices above €55/MWh. On 15 July the company filed a request with the national regulator ANRE to raise the regulated household gas tariff by 45.2%, from 14.41 lei to 20.93 lei per cubic metre (VAT included).

The filing coincides with a declaration of interim General Director Eugeniu Buzatu’s personal income for 2025, showing earnings of over 1.24 million lei (about 99,600 lei per month) from salary, per‑diems and meal vouchers, as well as assets worth roughly 220 k lei in bank accounts and a 2010 Lexus obtained by inheritance.

Energocom warns that without a timely tariff adjustment the accumulated cost differential will have to be recovered later, stressing that price formation is driven by global geopolitical events rather than domestic factors alone.
