Moldova's National Bureau of Statistics advances EU accession alignment
The National Bureau of Statistics (BNS) of Moldova is advancing its efforts to align the National Statistical System with European Union standards as part of the country's accession process.
During a recent meeting of Working Group No. 18, chaired by BNS Director General Oleg Cara, members reviewed progress made between January and September 2026 regarding the National Accession Program for 2025–2029. The group examined the status of current actions and identified potential risks that could impact the established implementation schedule.
In addition to reviewing technical progress, the BNS is focusing on institutional capacity. The agency recently welcomed new specialists across various departments, including communication, quality management, information technology, and labor market research, to support its central and regional offices.
Oleg Cara emphasized the necessity of inter-institutional cooperation and continued dialogue with Eurostat. This collaboration aims to modernize official statistics through the integration of statistical and geospatial data, ensuring Moldova meets the requirements of the EU acquis.
