Moldova's PM Vasile Tofan confirms inevitable gas tariff hike

Prime Minister Vasile Tofan announced that the natural‑gas tariff in Moldova must be increased and that avoiding the rise is impossible. He said the government can only lessen the impact for vulnerable households by offering compensation, and any claim that the price hike could be averted is false.

Tofan noted that the tariff adjustment is driven by higher distribution and supply costs, and referenced recent protests organised by opposition parties against rising gas prices. He urged that public debate focus on mitigation measures rather than denying the inevitable increase.
