Molini Popolari Riuniti expands into Tuscany with new mill

Molini Popolari Riuniti (MPR), an Umbrian cooperative, has expanded its operations into Tuscany with the inauguration of the Molino San Matteo plant in Castelfiorentino, Florence. This move marks the cooperative's entry into the Tuscan milling sector and strengthens its presence in Central Italy.

Through a strategic partnership with Unicoop Firenze and its subsidiary Cerealia, the project focuses on a localized cereal supply chain. The facility will primarily process Tuscan wheat provided directly by local member farmers. A key feature of the production is a zero-residue agronomic protocol that avoids the use of glyphosate, a model previously successfully implemented by MPR in Umbria.

The resulting flours will serve different markets: zero-residue flours are destined for Unicoop Firenze's bakery laboratories, while conventional 100% Italian wheat flour will be used by Cerealia. Additionally, the plant will produce specialty and organic grains for MPR's own bakery brands, ‘Le 5 spighe’ and ‘Pane di Ellera’.
