Molise Region auctions Brussels headquarters at a loss

The Molise Region is auctioning its institutional headquarters in Brussels, located at Rue de Toulouse 47, for an estimated 1.35 million euros. The property was originally purchased in 2005 for approximately 1.6 million euros during the presidency of Michele Iorio.

Critics, including Andrea Montesanto of Costruire Democrazia, have highlighted the financial loss, noting that the sale price is 250,000 euros less than the purchase price, excluding two decades of maintenance and operational costs. The controversy centers on the decision to maintain a five-story building for only two employees while the region simultaneously pays millions of euros annually in rent for offices in Campobasso and elsewhere.

While former governor Michele Iorio defended the purchase, arguing that an institutional presence in Brussels is necessary to monitor European programs, infrastructure, and agricultural policies, opponents characterize the management of the asset as an inefficient use of public funds.
