Molise regional investment program faces fund reallocation debate

The Molise 2021-2027 Regional Program, funded by European resources (FESR and FSE+), is undergoing strategic shifts. Regional authorities, including Governor Francesco Roberti and Managing Authority Alberta De Lisio, have outlined five pillars for the investment strategy: connection, stability, social dimension, and territory. Officials noted that the European Commission has recognized Molise’s progress in fund expenditure, potentially avoiding the intensive bilateral reviews faced by slower regions.

However, the program faces criticism regarding the reallocation of funds. During a Surveillance Committee meeting, it was confirmed that approximately 19.084 million euros originally intended for Territorial Strategies in Internal Areas will be redirected toward other purposes, specifically the Termoli Customs Free Zone. Representatives from mountain municipalities have expressed concern, arguing that this decision removes resources from fragile territories struggling with depopulation and service shortages without clearly defined alternative funding or timelines.
