Mombasa man arrested for allegedly stabbing wife and child to death
A man identified as Richard Matiko is in police custody after allegedly stabbing his wife and one of their children to death in the Shauri Yako area of Nyali, Mombasa. The incident, reportedly stemming from a family dispute, resulted in the deaths of the wife and one child.
According to police reports, the suspect also attacked a 14-year-old child, who sustained serious injuries but managed to escape the house. The teenager was later assisted by a bystander and is receiving treatment at Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital.
Investigators stated that the suspect attempted to hide the evidence by placing the child's body in a pit latrine and tried to do the same with his wife's body, though he was unable to move her due to her weight. He instead reportedly wrapped her in a mattress and left her inside the residence. Matiko surrendered himself to the Nyali Police Station following the attack.
Ben Kasyoki, the Coast Regional Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Boss, described the event as a “deeply disturbing case of extreme domestic violence.” Homicide teams are currently processing the scene, and the victims have been moved to the Coast General Mortuary pending postmortem examinations.
