Domestic violence incidents in Kenya

Overview

Multiple reports of fatal domestic violence involving family members have emerged from different regions in Kenya.

In Kakamega East, a 23-year-old woman was allegedly killed in a panga attack by her brother-in-law, leaving her three-year-old daughter hospitalized with serious head injuries. In Embu County, a young woman was reportedly killed by her brother following a dispute regarding her presence at a local club.

In Mombasa, a man identified as Richard Matiko surrendered to police after allegedly stabbing his wife and one child to death during a family dispute. A 14-year-old child also sustained serious injuries in the attack. Regional criminal investigation officials described the incident as a “deeply disturbing case of extreme domestic violence.”
