Monaco GP penalty reversal leads Mercedes, McLaren to seek appeals

After the stewards annulled the two speed‑limit penalties that had dropped Pierre Gasly from the Monaco Grand Prix podium, the French driver was reinstated in third place. Mercedes announced it will exercise its right of review, with team principal Toto Wolff stating, "Concernant l'affaire Gasly, oui, nous avons fait valoir notre droit de révision, car nous souhaitons tout simplement être présents autour de la table lorsque les décisions sont prises." The team hopes to address what it sees as an injustice to George Russell, who lost points after serving a penalty that was later deemed erroneous.

McLaren confirmed it has lodged an intention to appeal the decision, saying, "We have already lodged an intention to appeal." Team principal Andrea Stella described the case as "extremely complicated" due to the inconsistency between drivers who served penalties and those whose penalties were overturned. Both teams warn that the ruling could set a precedent for future challenges to race penalties and may affect past race results.
