Alpine files appeal over Monaco Grand Prix penalties after pit‑lane speed infractions

Alpine Formula 1 team, led by Flavio Briatore, has lodged an official appeal with the FIA over a series of 60 km/h pit‑lane speed penalties issued at the Monaco Grand Prix. The team argues that at least four teams were penalised for exceeding the limit by as little as 0.1 km/h and claims a possible software or measurement error. Alpine’s driver Pierre Gasly, who originally finished third, was demoted to seventh after a time penalty, while other drivers penalised included Lewis Hamilton, George Russell, Oscar Piastri and Franco Colapinto. Gasly said he had worked “ten years” for a podium and expressed frustration, while Russell pointed to a potential glitch in the speed‑limit system.

The FIA has confirmed the race result but, under the sport’s review rules, will examine Alpine’s request for a reassessment. The penalties also affected Red Bull’s Isack Hadjar, who moved up onto the podium. The race was won by Mercedes rookie Kimi Antonelli. Outside the sporting controversy, former German World‑Cup champions Lukas Podolski, Mats Hummels and Mario Götze attended the event, highlighting the Monaco GP’s celebrity draw.
