Monagas power outages triggered by Tropical Wave 38

Heavy rains caused by Tropical Wave No. 38 have led to significant infrastructure damage in Monagas state, Venezuela. The weather event caused the collapse of three 115 kV transmission towers in the Tropical community, disrupting electricity supply across several municipalities, including Bolívar and Punceres.

Corpoelec has deployed over 650 personnel to conduct high-level engineering repairs, including clearing lines and installing provisional towers. While power has been restored to the Puente Punceres, Cachipo, and Tropical sectors, technical teams are still working to reconnect Azagua, Quiriquire, and Caripito.

In response to the crisis, Governor Ernesto Luna implemented a contingency plan prioritizing 68 communities. The emergency measures include distributing potable water via cisterns from PDVSA and Hidroven, and delivering 7,000 food bags to families who lost perishables due to the power outages. Additionally, medical units have been organized to transport patients to the Dr. Manuel Núñez Tovar University Hospital in Maturín.
