Venezuela tropical wave rainstorms

Entities: Instituto Nacional de Meteorología e Hidrología (Inameh) · Caracas · Servicio Nacional de Meteorología e Hidrología del Perú (Senamhi) · Suriname · Inameh (Instituto Nacional de Meteorología e Hidrología)

Overview

On 25 July 2026 a tropical wave designated N.º 30 moved across central Venezuela, delivering rain, thunderstorms and lightning to a broad swath of the country. Accumulations ranged from a few millimetres to up to 80 mm in Zulia, with cooler temperatures in the highlands and hot conditions around Maracaibo. The heavy rain caused water‑filled gullies, reduced visibility and localized landslides along the Caracas‑La Guaira corridor, prompting authorities to issue alerts and advise drivers to avoid vulnerable zones.

Two days later, on 27 July 2026, the national meteorological agency warned that a new system, Tropical Wave No. 31, was approaching from the northeast. While Wave 30 was completing its passage, forecasts projected partly cloudy skies in the morning followed by widespread cloud cover and variable‑intensity precipitation across most regions, including the Guayana Esequiba, the Andes, Zulia and the western Llanos. Caracas was expected to experience intermittent rain throughout the day. The warning underscored the continued threat of successive tropical waves bringing rain and potential flooding across Venezuela.
