Mondial de l’Auto 2026 highlights French car dependency and industry tech

An Ipsos study conducted in September 2026 for the Mondial de l’Auto reveals a deep-seated reliance on automobiles among the French population. The survey of 1,000 adults indicates that 91% of households own at least one vehicle, and 81% of respondents state they cannot do without one. Notably, the Hauts-de-France region shows the highest level of car dependency in the country, driven by a combination of sentimental attachment, driving pleasure, and a lack of alternative transportation options.

In conjunction with these findings, the Mondial de l’Auto 2026 will host a specialized program on October 13 focused on the industry's technological transformations. In partnership with Google and Boston Consulting Group (BCG), the event will feature conferences on artificial intelligence, advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), software-defined vehicles (SDV), and global industry competitiveness.
