Moniepoint disburses $700 million to Nigerian MSMEs, boosting jobs and first‑time credit
Moniepoint Inc. released its inaugural Impact Report, showing that it disbursed more than $700 million in loans to Nigerian micro, small and medium‑size enterprises (MSMEs) in 2025. Three‑quarters of borrowers received formal business credit for the first time, and loan recipients saw a 36 % rise in average transaction value. The fintech’s ecosystem now serves over 20 million businesses and individuals across Africa and processes over $250 billion in digital payments each year.
Enterprises banking with Moniepoint collectively supported more than eight million jobs. Women‑owned businesses accounted for 36 % of the loan portfolio after a 300 % increase in lending to female entrepreneurs; women borrowers also exhibited a default rate 2.5 times lower than men. The company’s USSD service enabled users without smartphones to conduct more than $170 million in transactions, and its point‑of‑sale terminals operate in all 774 Nigerian local‑government areas, reaching about 100 million people. Moniepoint also expanded into East Africa through the acquisition of Sumac Microfinance Bank in Kenya and the launch of the Moniebook platform for payments, bookkeeping and inventory management.
