Moniepoint financial services expansion in Africa

Overview

Moniepoint has expanded its financial services and impact across Africa, specifically targeting small businesses and individual savings resilience in Nigeria.

In 2025, the fintech company disbursed over $700 million in loans to Nigerian micro, small and medium-size enterprises (MSMEs), with three-quarters of those borrowers receiving formal business credit for the first time. The company reported that its ecosystem serves over 20 million businesses and individuals and has expanded into East Africa through the acquisition of Sumac Microfinance Bank in Kenya.

Building on this footprint, Moniepoint Microfinance Bank launched a new line of flexible savings products under the ‘One Step Ahead’ campaign. These products are designed to help Nigerians manage economic uncertainty and unexpected expenses, which a company survey indicated disrupt the savings plans of 72.8% of individuals.
