Monika Piątkowska launches Kraków mayoral campaign

Monika Piątkowska has officially launched her campaign for the presidency of Kraków, collecting signatures for her candidacy in the city. Running under the committee name ‘Ponad Podziałami’ (Above Divisions), Piątkowska emphasized a platform of independence from central party structures, stating that her primary accountability is to the residents of Kraków rather than political leaders.

Despite her emphasis on a non-partisan approach, Piątkowska confirmed she has the full support of Koalicja Obywatelska (KO) leaders, including Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz. Tusk publicly endorsed her candidacy on social media, describing her as “brave, energetic, and effective.”

The early mayoral election is scheduled for September 27, following a May referendum in which residents voted to remove the previous president, Aleksander Miszalski. Piątkowska has announced that her formal election program will be presented on August 19 and includes proposals such as the introduction of a tourist fee in the city.
