Monika Piątkowska unveils mayoral campaign program for Kraków

Monika Piątkowska, the Civic Coalition (KO) and Polish People's Party (PSL) candidate for Mayor of Kraków, has unveiled her campaign program, titled ‘Piątka Piątkowskiej’ (Piątkowska’s Five). Her platform focuses on five key areas: communication, security, economy, housing, and culture/sport.

Key proposals include a three-year restructuring plan to reduce Kraków’s debt by at least 1 billion PLN from its current level of nearly 8 billion PLN. Regarding infrastructure, Piątkowska aims to build a metro system, which she describes as a ‘city-building investment,’ alongside new tram lines to Azory, Kliny, and Złocień, as well as the Pychowice and Zwierzyniec routes.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk attended the presentation to offer his support for Piątkowska ahead of the early mayoral elections scheduled for September 27. Tusk also addressed the issue of the tourist tax, stating he has reached a preliminary agreement with the Minister of Finance to ensure that 100% of the collected tourist tax goes to the municipality, rather than the 80% currently proposed in legislation.
