Monsoon rains bring relief across Indian states after severe heat

Heavy rains arrived in several Indian districts, ending days of intense heat and humidity. Temperatures fell as cloud cover and showers reduced the heat index, allowing people to venture outdoors and bringing a welcome coolness to markets and public spaces.

Farmers reported that the moisture will benefit kharif crops such as rice, sesame and lentils, improving sowing conditions. The India Meteorological Department warned that some regions may experience strong winds, heavy downpours and lightning, urging people to stay away from open areas and take precautions while outdoors.

The monsoon front is advancing rapidly, with forecasts of continued rain in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Delhi, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Haryana over the coming days.
