Monsoon rains cause flooding in Assam and rising Yamuna levels in Delhi

Heavy monsoon rains continue to cause widespread disruption and loss of life across several Indian states. In Assam, the death toll from flooding has risen to 99, with over 1.47 million people currently affected across 12 districts, including Sonitpur, Nagaon, and Golaghat.

In Delhi, intense rainfall has caused the Yamuna river's water levels to rise significantly. Recent downpours in the capital have been among the highest recorded for early August in recent years, leading to waterlogging and heavy traffic congestion in areas such as Kalindi Kunj and Mehrauli-Badarpur Road.

Northern and southern regions are also facing severe weather. Himachal Pradesh has reported 153 road closures due to torrential rain, with 66 deaths linked to rain-related incidents since the monsoon began in June. In Kerala, hundreds of people have been moved to relief camps following damage to homes and infrastructure. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued orange alerts for several regions, including Odisha and Chhattisgarh, predicting continued heavy to very heavy rainfall in the coming days.
