Monsoon rains cause landslides and road closures across Himachal Pradesh

Heavy monsoon rains in Himachal Pradesh have triggered widespread landslides and subsidence. In Karyal village, Bilaspur district, the ground is sinking, prompting the sub‑divisional magistrate Gaurav Chaudhary to order an inspection and locals to demand geologists examine a nearby 33 kV substation under construction.

State Emergency Operation Centre data show that 60 roads across the state are blocked, including National Highway 05 near Choling after a cloudburst in Kinnaur district. The ATR route in Lahaul and Spiti and several district roads remain closed. Power infrastructure has been hit, with 48 distribution transformer regions affected and significant outages, while 27 drinking‑water schemes are non‑functional. Preliminary estimates place private property losses at about ₹69.65 lakh, with Mandi district accounting for the largest share.

Authorities have deployed restoration teams, advised travelers to avoid vulnerable areas, and kept a 24‑hour emergency helpline active as the monsoon season continues.
