Monsoon rains shut over 150 roads and disrupt services in Himachal Pradesh

Heavy monsoon rains have battered Himachal Pradesh, prompting the state emergency operation centre to close more than 150 roads and issue a yellow alert for heavy rain until August 10. The worst‑hit districts were Mandi (up to 53 roads), Sirmaur, Kullu and Shimla. Water supply schemes and electricity transformers were also affected, with dozens of schemes and hundreds of transformers disrupted before restoration crews reduced the number of out‑of‑service transformers to six by evening.

Rescue teams saved about 25 members of nomadic Gujjar families trapped by a sudden flood in the Jalmusha river. Restoration work by the Public Works Department, Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board and Jal Shakti Department has cleared many roads and restored most power, though water supply disruptions persist in several districts.
